Chris graduated!
Yeah!
The Class of 2008 Rocks!
Woooo-Hooo!
OK, so graduation was over 6 weeks ago. And I am just now getting around to the blog. Hey, I'm trying. Maybe I am in denial that my oldest child is growing up and leaving home. Or maybe I am at that special age when you blink and days, weeks, and/or months have passed by.
Whatever the case, we are very proud of Christopher and his many accomplishments during his high school years. At a special ceremony prior to graduation, Chris received awards for 4.0 GPA, graduating in the top 20, and being the top AP English student. He also got a nifty little seal on his diploma for Citizenship for having received his Eagle Scout award. In Farrell tradition, we set up a little shrine for Chris on the piano featuring his Little League T-Ball trophies, music awards, art awards, science fair ribbons, and our favorite--the CCHS "Lamp of Learning" 2006 Academic Student of the Year award with Christopher's name spelled wrong.
We enjoyed sharing the graduation event with the Farrells, who valiantly came to sit with us at 9am in the blazing sun on the football field for 4 hours to watch the ceremony. What a great family we have to support us! We know that the rest of you were there with us in CCHS spirit! Thanks too for the cards, calls, and well wishes! It was entertaining watching Chris and other band seniors running back and forth between the pavillion where they had to play in the band and their place in line to graduate. They had to do this multiple times. (This is Culpeper remember). Jeffrey also played in the band, and has made it clear that after performing Pomp and Circumstance 58 times in a row he does not ever wish to hear or play it again. He is very serious about that. At least the band also got to play Star Wars, so that was redeeming.
Chris had a fun grad party at our pool (and yes, we served many many racks of BBQ ribs)--so he had the whole treatment. We now have a new family tradition...Christopher jumped in the pool wearing his cap and gown. It has been decided that all graduating Thelins henceforth shall follow their brother's example with a Graduation Cannonball! Anyway, here are some of the pics. We especially liked the one Chris took as a reflection in his sunglasses. The really nice close-ups a neighbor friend took. And thanks to Dan for the family ones! It is good to have so many people taking care of us! Congratulations Chris! We love you! BYU is lucky to get you next!

I love the cool pictures of Chris with his shades...I can't believe he is actually a high school grad! Watch out BYU, here comes Chris. We're sad we missed it, but we still have Chris' graduation announcement on our fridge, so does that count for support?
Great pictures!
Okay, this is all so awesome! LOVE the pic of Chris's reflection in his sunglasses. Masterfully done! And, the Cannonball in the pool is an AWESOME tradition...I wish I had been there to see it.
When we graduated, we weren't allowed to bring anything with us except our keys because they always worry about pranks. The efforts are always futile though as someone always smuggles in a balloon which gets bounced around among the seniors until some administrator takes it. Anyway, having the ceremony in Culpepper outside in the sunshine does have it's perks; At least Chris was able to bring his sunglasses!
Congrats Chris! Those are some pretty awesome awards you got. BYU IS Lucky to get you (and so are the girls at BYU!
We are so proud of you, Chris. And we love all the Thelins dearly. That was a great day, and we were so happy to be a part of it. Thanks for the beautiful pictures. We'll have to send them to Joey. You are all AWESOME!
