Dan and I were invited to the Westfield High School underclassmen awards assembly yesterday. We got to see our son Steven, a junior, on stage three times. First, he was with a chorus of about 10 Chamber Singers who sang the National Anthem at the beginning of the assembly. He was later awarded by the Physics Department as the top student (!) in Honors Physics. And finally, as a result of his high PSAT scores, Steven was honored to be among the candidates for National Merit Scholar. We are so proud of him!
Below is a clip from the national anthem. You CANNOT see Steven at all! But he is there! The girls are in the light and the boys are in the shadow. We could see him fine in the auditorium, but the camera could not pick it up. HOWEVER, you can hear his beautiful tenor voice:
Today was also eventful. This evening was our ward's "Senior Roast," a yearly tradition where we honor the graduating high school seniors. As a junior, Steven was not one of the honorees, but was a part of the narrative cast for the event, which had the theme "Graduation: The Final Frontier." You may recognize him as the character Data. We think he's the coolest.

Congratulations Steven! You are amazing (but of course, look at the family you belong to)! We are so proud of you! Especially the Physics award. I was horrible at Physics--my sleep was plagued with nightmares of calculating terminal velocities and having vectors attacking me through my entire senior year of high school. After getting a 35 on your ACTs and a Merit Scholar for your PSATs you shall undoubtedly be shortly receiving a deluge of mail from colleges great and small hoping to recruit your genius mind. Also, the singing was great--you are definitely the most talented shadow up there! Your senior roast looks like the coolest activity ever--we could never do anything like that in Culpeper because none of the youth own televisions (except a few of us heathens), and thereby would never have seen a Star Trek rerun. Hope your last week of school is great! We love you, Stellar Steven!
Steven way to go! You are awesome. Danny would be so proud to hear about the physics award. The singing sounded great! You are so accomplished. Maybe you could make a career out of shaddow singing about physics TO people that are taking their ACTs. Combine ALL your talents into one.
Great job Steve-O you're awesome!
Hooray Steven for your awards. We've been saying you were a genius for years now, and now we have proof!
And, hooray Mom for posting a video! I am way impressed ;).
Mom, NO FAIR. I still don't know how to post videos, and you totally showed me up!
But, the true accomplishment goes to Steven, for sure. Steven, I wish I could be there to cheer for you. We all stand behind you even if it's just Mom and Dad applauding. You are amazing.
