Picture Perfect

Today we got a funny phonecall from the Elementary School. The lady on the phone wanted to know if Amy needed to get her picture retaken today. Somehow she was on the list for retakes. Actually, she had her picture taken on the original day and they turned out great. They are sitting in a pile on my dresser with all the other school pictures. This was all explained to the lady, who politely apologized for the mistake.

Well, the story is much better from Amy's end. She started off her day by being called out of class, not knowing why. She was herded down the hall with some other kids, by a teacher she didn't know, to the cafeteria. She noticed the other kids had envelopes with money. She didn't have one. At this point, the kids were put in a line and began handing their money to the person at the table at the end of the line. At length, Amy saw a friend she recognized and asked what they were doing. The girl said they were getting their pictures retaken. Amy immediately realized she didn't belong there and panicked. She is so methodical and likes to know exactly what is going on. This completely upset her fruit basket. (Maybe it is bad of me, but I think it is kind of funny how much she was upset...I mean what is the worst thing that could have happened? Someone taking her picture! It's not like they were giving the kids shots or something!)

Anyway, Amy tried to get the attention of a teacher. She explained that she shouldn't be there. She was told that her name was on the list, so she did need to be there or her picture wouldn't be in the yearbook. She moved in line to the lady at the table and tried to explain that she didn't have any money because we already paid for pictures before, because we ALREADY took pictures. She said she could even remember what she wore. She was told that her name was on the list, so she must have been absent that day. She moved on to the lady with the combs and the mirror, and by now she was feeling pretty desperate. Picture taking was next. Right behind that curtain. NO! Not that! Amy explained to this lady that she could not possibly have been absent for the first pictures because she has perfect attendance. She recited our phone number and begged them to call us "before it was too late". In Amy's words, she "finally found a reasonable adult" who listened to her in this critical moment and made the call, only to find out of course, that Amy was right all along.

Talk about a narrow escape. Phew! That was close.

P.S. My favorite part was hearing her tell the story and with a totally serious face saying, "Finally I found a reasonable adult." I had to laugh, I'm sorry.

haha, poor little Amy! Things like that can be traumatizing for kids. I'm so glad she found a reasonable adult to talk to and they could get the situation taken care of! Now we just need you to post that cute picture of Amy for all of us to see :)

What a close call! Thank heavens for that reasonable adult! Before it was too late! She is so darling and innocent AND smart. She has it all figured out, if the rest of us can just keep up.

You know, there really AREN'T many reasonable adults! I think Amy sure has gumption to keep fighting even after everyone was telling her she was wrong. This is wonderfully classic.
